Your Ultimate Backyard Nature Store ®

Lee and Dee Duer,WBC of Waldorf, MD

The Wild Bird Center of Waldorf is your resource for backyard birding and feeding. Serving Charles County and neighboring communities since 1992.

The store is a 3,000 square foot specialty retail shop that offers a complete line of products to help its citizens enjoy wild birds and foster a healthy backyard habitat. Besides providing the very best variety of seed, seed mixes, suet products, feeders and houses they specialize in providing proven solutions for the majority of problems commonly faced by the backyard hobbyist. Such as "squirrel proof" feeders, blue bird habitats, purple martin setups, bat houses, and humming bird feeders. They have a unique assortment of fittings, hooks, poles and adaptors designed to accommodate and compliment the individual requirements associated with this growing and exciting backyard hobby.

The management and staff has a collective total of over 90 years in birding and when asked will provide honest and candid assessments of your backyard birding requirements. The store Security Manager is a solid black German Shepherd named Shadow who oftentimes will fall at your feet in an upside down position so you can scratch his belly. Doing this will almost guarantee his acceptance of you and will considerably reduce the chances of being chased down or bitten as you flee the store (but, just in case, he does have all his shots). Shadow has been training an assistant recently. She is a traditional black and tan German Shepherd and her name is Heidi. Heidi is a 4 year old rescue dog and Shadow is doing a great job of socializing her.

We welcome your visit and look forward to discussing your interests and hearing your bird and squirrel stories. We would love to see photos of your back yard feeders and birds. Simply email in .jpg format and we will post your best photos on the web site. Please include your name, date and location of photo, and any other pertinent information.

Annual Birds of Prey Day July 18th. 1-5 pm. Bring your camera, but please do not bring your fish. Fish are NOT allowed and any person attempting to sneak in their fish will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Park Naturalist for Clearwater Nature Center, Beth Wisotzkey (pictured below) will be presenting the raptors at our Annual Birds of Prey show at the store on July 18th from 1 to 5pm. This has been very popular for the past 17 years and provides an unusual opportunity to get close to these beautiful creatures. It's also a great "photo-op". All donations this year will be applied to costs associated with a raptor workshop Beth is attending at the renown Minnesota Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota in the fall.
