What's Happening?
Many people are reporting their birds are having their second broods of the season!! Jim Johnson reported his bluebirds are on their second brood. They had 4 young in their first brood. How exciting. My cardinals have had two broods this year but only one young survived each time. The thrashers had 4 young this year. They love to sit on our hammock. I think the thrashers use it more than we do.Hummingbirds are hovering all over the butterfly bush, verbena and lantana. We are going through a lot of WBC hummingbird nectar. A good friend of mine sent me a photo of a hummingbird feeding her young. Hope to get permission to show the photo here! If anyone else has a photo and would like it displayed please send it in.
Remember water is VERY IMPORTANT to our feathered friends! Do not rely on rain or the sprinkler to provide enough. I have looked out my window many times to see water flying out of one of my 5 birdbaths due to someone enjoying thier bath!
Happy birding and we look forward to hearing from you about the birds in your yard!
Oh, yeah let me say Yes everyone is having a grackle and starling problem. The "blackbirds" are not just picking on you and your birds!!! We have options to thwart those menaces such as a caged feeder. We can not help you get rid of all the blackbirds but we can help you deter them from emptying your feeder within a few minutes!
