It was a cloudy and humid morning; no wind and it was eerily quiet. Sorry, I started to get carried away. But mostly that was the way the morning started at Grindstone Nature Area. As the sun tried to break thru, the activity increased. We saw or heard the following 26 species of birds:
Turkey Vultures
Red-tailed Hawk pair building a nest very close to the trail. One landed right above us and was trying to pull branches off to build the nest. Very cool.

The birds put on a fantastic show at Eagle Bluffs this morning. We saw 45 different species at the refuge and the feeders at the headquarters. Highlights included many bald eagles, 14 swans, huge numbers of ducks and geese and tens of thousands of blackbirds. We had great views of many birds together so that we could get great comparisons of swans and snow geese, Canada goose with a cackling goose, house finches and purple finches and many others. A handsome and cooperative male hooded merganser was also a treat. The following is the entire list of birds seen today:
