Wild Bird Center Community Outreach Activities
The Burke Wild Bird Center offers a number of community services at no cost or for nominal charges.Community Education Programs - The Burke Wild Bird Center offers educational programs about birds and other native wildlife to schools, scouting groups, clubs, and senior centers. Our programs can be tailored to the needs of any group.
Wildlife education programs - The Wild Bird Center sponsors periodic in-store wildlife education programs featuring live birds of prey. These free programs provide the public with the rare opportunity to see these magnificent birds up close and to learn more about these threatened species. The Wild Bird Center also holds a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permit to possess an American Crow for educational purposes. Since coming to the Wild Bird Center in 1994, Gabby, the American Crow, has been an extraordinary ambassador for the species. Gabby is a particular favourite with younger visitors and quickly teaches them about the intelligence of non-human species.
Environmental Fund - The Wild Bird Center is pleased to support a number of worthy environmental causes. We donate a percentage of each sale to either The Nature Conservancy, the Virginia Wildlife Center, or the Wildlife Rescue League.
Special Orders - The Wild Bird Center is here to serve you, our customers. If there is a particular product in which you are interested and we do not stock that product we will be more than happy to order it for you. In some cases a deposit may be required.
Frequent Buyer Program - The Frequent Buyer Program is activated automatically any time you purchase a 20 or 25 pound bag of seed. Our computer system tracks these purchases and once you have purchased nine bags of one type and size (say nine 20 lb bags of Hopper Mix), the computer will automatically award a free bag as a bonus. Buy nine, get the tenth bag free! That amounts to a 10%savings.
Early Bird Program - The Early Bird Seed program is designed for those who use substantial amounts of seed and want an even bigger savings. This program offers a straight 15% discount on all seed and suet purchases for those who pre-pay for their seed. Just make a deposit of $100 or more on your store account and then come in and pick up whatever seed or suet you need when you need it. And you can add money to your Early Bird account in $100 increments at any time. Unfortunately, the buy nine get one free does not apply to the Early Bird Program. However, we will always ensure that you get the greater of any discounts available to you.
Buy Four Get One Free - Buy any four suet cakes at the regular price and get a fifth cake of equal or lesser value free.
